Marked
Marked is a multi-sensory, interactive installation which explores time as material. Employing sculpture, photography, sound, scent and touch, this piece builds a montage of personal and communal memories using visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile elements.
The photographic components in Marked extend the project’s exploration of time. This is visually realized as shifting sunlight, shadows, and skies; aging bodies and cherished mementos. Taken together, the images suggest a tension between past and present, what is remembered and what is forgotten.
The sculptural, olfactory, and sound pieces in Marked focus on domestic space, shaped by touch and memory. Anchored by the frame of a house, without finished walls or foundation, it imagines the fragmented recollection of a home. Objects, sounds, and scents pierce the veil of the present, reinforcing the relationship between form and content, time and the body. Over the course of the exhibition, the work is marked by individuals, a collaboration between maker and viewer, continually imprinted and imprinting.
